Beautiful Music from Argentina

Thanks to Marten for sending me a link to this video by Argentinian singer Mercedes Sosa. Can you hear the accent?

More Real Spanish on the Net

In case you missed them in the forum, here are a couple more places you can download real Spanish audio on the net:

First up is Radio Canada Internacional. According to forum member El Jardinero Zurdo, “…if you want to expand your listening repertoire in Spanish, try out Canadá en las Américas! There are two other (weekly) radio shows there (including the strangely named El Castor Mensajero!) … choose Podcast, or Emisiones for the other radio shows.”

Dutch station Radio Nederland also broadcasts over the net, with a range of news and current affairs broadcasts - just choose Español from the drop-down menu at the top.

Finally, iTunes users can find an astonishing range of Spanish podcasts in the iTunes directory - click here for some of the top results. You can find everything from history lessons to star gazing on-line these days!

Spanish audio resources round-up

After posting a couple of weeks ago about Mexican and Argentinian podcasts, there was a lot of discussion in the forum and the comments here, highlighting some of your favourite Spanish audio resources. I thought it would be useful to list them all in one place:

Please browse through the comments below for more great suggestions! And keep adding if you can!

And how good is your Argentinian Spanish!?

In case you missed it in the comments to the post below, Matt suggested another great podcast (this time from Argentina), ‘Desde el Baño‘. As they explain on their website:

La idea del Podcast es darle la posibilidad a todos los que estén interesados, de aprender el vocabulario y las expresiones más comunes de la Argentina.

This is definitely one for Advanced learners, but even if you aren’t able to understand everything just yet, you can still get an idea of that beautiful, lilting Argentinian accent. To listen to or download the podcasts on their site, click on the green titles of each post. Do you know any more great podcasts in Spanish? Why not tell us about them in the Notes in Spanish forum?

How good is your Mexican Spanish?!

A while ago the guys from Hablamos de Cine asked me to mention their podcast on this site. As the title suggests, it’s a show all about cinema from around the world (not just Spanish films), broadcast from Mexico City. It’s great to hear the Mexican accent, but the conversation really can be difficult to follow if you aren’t used to it.

I remember watching my favourite Mexican film, Y tu Mama También, for the first time - I had to put the Spanish subtitles on just to understand what was going on! How do you find the South American Spanish accents?

Spanish Audio Practice… do they really smoke that much?!

¡¡Madre mia!! ¿Tanto fuman los niños españoles? When I first saw the poster above, I was really worried about the Spanish kids of today! The video cleared things up, eventually… So, for ten points, who’s really doing the smoking?
