¡Guiri Total! ‘Notes in Spanish L!VE’ arrives!
A random start to our new ‘Notes in Spanish L!VE’ video blogging adventure, in which Ben, the Guiri Total, had to get a bit Spanish in mega department store Fnac to get his Euros back.
This is the start of a new videoblogging season here at Notes in Spanish: there will be lots of videos from lots of places coming your way! We hope to see yours too! Details of a new feed for those that want to subscribe in iTunes etc will follow shortly.
The top words from today’s video blog are:
Guiri – Foreign bloke, more info here.
Meterle caña – To give someone a hard time
Ponerse Chulo – To get tough about something, take no crap!

Only 9 years to get chulo?! My wife keeps telling me to do the same – and I’ve been here 15 years. Marina – what’s your secret?
Comment from Marina
Zoey and Chris, thanks very much for your comments!
Chris, I’m as amazed as you are. Despite Ben getting better and better at doing things the Spanish way when needed, I still haven’t seen him fight as he did in Fnac… and I guess I won’t see him, because as I said in the video, if I’m around “el marrón” would pass on to me.

I always enjoy listening your audios. I’m not so sure for other people but I’m definitely better at learning things when they are presented in video setting. So keep up the good work!
Thanks again

My Spanish isn’t good enough yet to understand what you are talking about. But I still like hearing you guys talk in Spanish, because it sounds good. Is that weird? Jeje
Comment from ben
No, not too weird

Me gusta mucho el video. Gracias! Hay ‘transcripts’ por el?
Comment from Anne
I enjoy the videos as well – are there transcripts?
Anne

Hi Anne,
We don’t have transcripts for the actual videos yet (still just the podcasts), but may add these in the future if there is sufficient demand.
Saludos from Madrid,
Ben

I love the video blog!!! Haha, when I first moved to Spain for my study abroad year in Granada, guiri was one of the first new words I learned. Ahhh, I also have many happy FNAC memories. I look forward to more video blogs.
