How quickly can you learn Spanish?

Of course the answer to that depends a lot on how much time, motivation, and passion you have, but I have to say that Michael Tipper did pretty darn well in 33 days! Check out this video for proof! All done using nothing more than free resources on the internet, including Notes in Spanish podcasts of course!

Hi Ben and Marina,

Thanks for your kinds words and for the mention.

Just want to say once again thanks for the great resources you have provided that really helped me in my 33 day experiment. Yes you are right about time, motivation and passion because they really do make a big difference.

There is a whole conversation we could also have about beliefs, confidence and self esteem too that impact someone’s ability to learn. I never cease to be amazed at how subtle shifts in those can really improve someone’s chances of learning something - in our case Spanish.

I do think that the resources people use also has an impact on this. One of the reasons I like Notes in Spanish so much is that you give people the belief and confidence they can do it and masses of encouragement along the way.

I just can’t wait to get to the intermediate and advanced levels so I can take advantage of your work there too.

Please whatever you do NEVER STOP!!!!!!

Regards and Best wishes

(or should I say hasta luego!)

Michael Tipper

No plans on stopping yet! You are right about confidence and self-esteem, it helps a lot. But everyone should go into learning Spanish with lots of both, as it really is possible for everyone to do it!

I watched the video with my sister (who is studying to be an English teacher) and we were both amazed with the result of your experiment.

¡¡¡Enhorabuena Michael!!! ¡¡¡Eres un campeón!!!

I took three years of Spanish is School and that was really difficult for me. What helped was when I left to live in Argentina for a long period of time. After a few weeks I could communicate basically with the people and at the end of two years people asked what part of Argentina I was from! It just takes some patience and forcing yourself to listen and speak as much as possible. Now that I’m home I’ve been listening to Notes in Spanish to help learn to listen to different phonetic elements of Spanish…It’s awesome.
