Beautiful Music from Argentina
Thanks to Marten for sending me a link to this video by Argentinian singer Mercedes Sosa. Can you hear the accent?

I noticed an accent when Mercedes pronounced her ‘r’s. ‘rr’, and some ‘r en posición inicial’ also. She also seemed to aspirated some of her ‘s’. I find that is common in the Carribean region and possibly in Andalucia if I remember correctly. En algunos lugares “se comen los ‘s’es”.
It is a beautiful song!

I noticed that Argentines pronounce the ‘y’ as ‘dzj’, e.g.
playa = ‘pladzja’.
For people interested in an overview of all Sosa’s work, email me and I send it to you.

Qué bonita! De qué año es?
Her songs are beautiful. I especially like her singing of “Duerme, Duerme, Negrito”. Gracias a la vida, this one, is nice, too.
Thank you for posting, Marina and Ben!

Beautiful! This is the kind of music I really love. By the way, how old is this video? She looks so radiant and young! Unfortunately she seems to be suffering from a number of health problems these days, which have made her grow old in a very short time. But she is still a great singer, and one of my favorites!

Wow, a very nice song! I’m already trying to learn some more of the argentine spanish… it’s a bit difficult sometimes, but I love it.

NB: the video is set in peru/bolivia, at lago titicaca.

For me it’s hard to hear an accent when someone is singing. I think that singing tends to neutralized one’s accent.
In any case, her rr is definitely not from Buenos Aires. It sounds like she’s from the north of Argentina. (I just checked, and indeed she’s from Tucumán.)

by the way, that looks like Brazilian in the subtitles at the very end where she is talking….
