Foody phrases of the week!
Anyone who has spent much time in the company of Spaniards will know that they are obsessed with food. This week’s phrases are two of the most common you will hear in the Spanish kitchen. The first one is ideal for convincing fussy people that eating something isn’t going to kill them, and the second is a big compliment to the chef…
Lo que no mata engorda (Literally, what doesn’t kill you will make you fat!).
Definición - Es una ironía que utiliza alguien cuando come algo que no se ha lavado, o que se ha caído al suelo, o ha pasado su fecha de caducidad.
Un ejemplo…
Ben - “Marina, no te comas este trozo de jamón, que se ha caído al suelo de la cocina”.
Marina (dice mientras se lo come) - “Da igual, lo que no mata engorda.”
Ben - “Marina, no te comas las uvas todavía, que están sin lavar”.
Marina - “No me importa, lo que no mata engorda”.
Está para chuparse los dedos (Literally, it’s good enough to suck your fingers).
Definición - También se utiliza con la comida, y significa que esta muy buena.
Un ejemplo - “Esta tarta está para chuparse los dedos”.

Soy novato, pero creo que falta un acento sobre “esta”…
En vez de “esta para chuparse los dedos”–> “está para chuparse los dedos”??

Otro detalle pequiñito, le falta también el acento en el subtítulo “Está para chuparse los dedos (Literally…)”.

Sorry Wayne, we wrote the draft of this post from an English computer and we didn’t add the accents in the first version so I suppose later we fail to check it propely! Thanks for your help!

sorry for the accents…no tengo el teclado adecuado…otherwise I’ll have to copy n paste everything…
Estoy estudiando traduccion (espanol- ingles) and this year (pass to English, no accents!) I have to write my thesis. I dont have a clue about what to do.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
my course is a technical one, but practically I shoud pick a topic. choose a book written in spanish or in english. translate more or less 80 pages of it in Italian and then analise the text and do a glossary. (Spa, En, It)
please help me. it’s in july but I hear ppl who are already working on that.
